" "Bio" "
So you're on the internet, clicking around, doing your thing, and by the grace of the circuits of luck, you come across this music. It's by "City of the Asleep" and you don't know what that means, but maybe after a little bit of listening you decide you WANT to know. Or maybe you're just bored and this rabbit hole has your attention for the moment. For whatever reason, you click the link that says "Bio" which is short for "Biography" or maybe "Autobiography" or maybe it's not short for anything and just means "Life".
Regardless of what it means, you probably clicked it looking for some sort of description of the life, purpose, and/or ideology of the person or people responsible for this "City of the Asleep" music. Maybe you had some idea of what you expected to find; maybe you thought that City of the Asleep is a couple of dudes from West Newhavenshire abusing some synth equipment in Ted's mom's basement during a rainy day. Maybe you thought that City of the Asleep is a band of 40-somethings trying to recapture their youth in the desert sprawl of a Las Vegas suburb. Maybe you though that City of the Asleep is an organization devoted to the clandestine thieving-and-rebranding of a variety of obscure music under one brand-name.
If you thought any of those things, you're quite wrong. But in your defense, how were you to know that City of the Asleep is a man named Igliashon Jones who lives in Oakland, California? A man who makes this music on an old computer with cheap software in a one-bedroom apartment? A man who once studied philosophy and now studies acupuncture and has absolutely no hope or intent of ever so much as making a dime off of this music? A man who has embraced the pretentiousness of his flight from pretentiousness by putting his quotes in quotes and writing his autobiography in the second person? How on EARTH were you to have known this? Clearly, you weren't, but now you do, so in the future, you have no excuse.
Now go click something else, if you would be so kind.
